About David
He brings an unusual background to counseling - master’s degrees in Mental Health Counseling and in Biology/Biochemistry, plus many years working as a radiochemist and researcher. That scientific training informs his way of understanding behavior and mental health. It also shaped his attention to detail and his problem-solving approach in sessions.
David takes an eclectic approach to therapy, tailoring methods to each person’s needs. He commonly uses client-centered ideas and cognitive approaches, and also employs hypnotherapy and mindfulness-based strategies when helpful. He starts by identifying the most pressing issues and then builds a simple treatment plan to address them.
Progress is checked as therapy goes along and plans are adjusted when new concerns arise. If a problem needs an approach he does not provide, he may refer the person to another counselor who focuses on that area. He also uses biofeedback and neurofeedback tools as part of treatment when appropriate.
Outside of work he spends time in Idaho and the mountains south of Jackson Hole. He enjoys skiing, fly fishing, canoeing, and traveling, and often brings a grounded, nature-oriented perspective into his work.
